Some say that the body is a temple. If that's the case, then the following people had their temples desecrated by foreign objects that certainly didn't belong there. Doctors have extracted strange things from every part of the body, from maggots to magnets.

Maggots - A man named Aaron Dallas from Colorado returned from a trip to Belize to find that he had some bumps on his scalp. He ignored them, until the skin started to move... He went to the hospital and had five maggots removed from his scalp.

Twin - An Indian man named Sanju Bhagat made headlines around the world in 1999. The farmer had been living with a distended belly for most of his life and looked like he was heavily pregnant. As he grew older his stomach began to bulge even more and it became difficult to breath. One day, when he was in his thirties, he collapsed and was rushed to hospital. Doctors suspected he had an abdominal tumor, but what they found instead shocked them. The bulge in Bhagat's abdomen was in fact his twin brother, whose mutated body was absorbed in the uterus.

Dandelion - Chinese doctors found a dandelion growing inside an 18-month-old baby's ear. The plant had already grown almost an inch (2 cm) in length.

Maggots - A young boy from Kazakhstan went to the doctor complaining of an earache. They ended up removing twelve maggots from inside his ear.

Medical instrument - A woman named Sylvie Dubé began to suffer from severe abdominal pain after undergoing a hysterectomy. After an X-ray, doctors found that a 12-inch (30-centimeter) medical tool had been left inside her abdomen during the surgery.

Cockroach - A 60-year-old man discovered that a live cockroach was stuck in his ear. After trying everything to remove it, he ended up spraying pesticides into his ear to kill it. It worked, but as you can imagine, his ear became swollen and infected, so the body had to be surgically removed.

Calamari - A 63-year-old woman ate calamari and became 'pregnant' with 12 baby squid. When she complained about inflamed gums and teeth, doctors found baby cephalopods growing in her mouth.

Larvae - In Honduras, a mosquito laid its eggs inside a five-year-old child's eye. He eventually had to be operated on so they could remove the larvae from his eye.

Hair balls - A teenage girl went to the doctor because she couldn't drink anything without feeling sick. Doctors found a 9-lb (4-kg) ball of hair in her stomach. She suffered from trichophagia, a disorder that caused her to compulsively eat her hair.

Worm - A man named John Matthews went to the doctor because he was starting to lose his sight. His eye was examined and the doctors found there was a tapeworm inside it!

Spider - A Chinese woman went to the hospital with a horrible ear itch. You guessed it—they found a spider inside!

Fir - A 28-year-old man named Artyom Sidorkin had to be taken to hospital due to intense chest pains. During an investigative surgery, doctors found that a small fir plant was growing inside his lung. They believed Sidorkin may have inhaled part of the plant which ended up sprouting inside his body.

Nail - Prax Sanchez went to the doctor complaining of a severe pain in his ear. They tried to do an MRI, but it began to detect a large metal object (which should be kept far away from MRI machines!). As he was leaving, he coughed and a 1-inch (2.5-cm) nail came out of his nose. Problem solved!

Parasites - A 76-year-old woman named Hana Foldynova had to undergo surgery after doctors found she had a parasite in her kidneys that was almost 4 inches (10 cm) long. They also found another 2-inch (6-cm) parasite in her bladder.

Magnets and batteries - An eight-year-old girl was taken to the hospital because she was experiencing severe stomach pain. After an X-ray, they discovered that she had several batteries and magnets in her stomach...

Spider - A spider managed to crawl through a man's appendectomy scar and made it all the way to his stomach. It stayed in there for three days while he returned to Australia from his vacation in Bali, at which the little fella was surgically removed.

Fish - A 14-year-old Indian boy was cleaning his aquarium and took his fish with him when he went to the bathroom. Somehow, the fish got into his urethra, but doctors managed to remove it. Yikes.

Tapeworm - Rosemary Alvarez was undergoing brain surgery to remove a tumor when doctors found it was actually a tapeworm sitting on her cerebral stem!

Shell - Four-year-old Paul Franklin fell on the beach and injured one of his knees. Two weeks later, Franklin's mother took another look at the wound because it seemed to be infected. To her surprise, she found a small shell inside the it!

Fish - A young boy was playing in a river in India when he accidentally inhaled a 3.5-inch (9-cm) fish. Doctors had to perform a bronchoscopy after the fish entered his lungs.

Maggots - An Australian couple found out that they had flesh-eating maggots under their skin after a trip to South America.

Peas - An American man named Ron Sveden was taken to hospital after one of his lungs collapsed, only to find out that a pea plant was growing in it! Doctors believe Sveden ate a pea that somehow went to his lung and ended up sprouting.

Belt -

Indian doctors believed a 20-year-old man had an infection in his chest cavity. However, what they found during surgery was a belt in the young man's body! This had somehow happened after he was involved in a serious car accident years earlier, and doctors managed to miss the belt lodged in his chest...
