Cecil Rhodes remains one of the most divisive figures in British history. Founder of the De Beers diamond company, he went on to establish one of the most prestigious international scholarship programs in the world. But Rhodes, who served as Prime Minister of the Cape Colony in the late 1900s, was also a ruthless imperialist, with some historians even branding him as a white supremist. Today, many are demanding statues and memorials dedicated to the businessman and politician be removed.
