When people talk about the signing of the Magna Carta, they often use dramatic imagery to paint a picture of the king of England signing a document that allowed his people to declare war on their own king. And, in effect, that is what it did. However, the signing of the Magna Carta is about much more than the drama of the moment. In fact, it was a defining period in history, although people may not have recognized it as so at the time.
